Lincolnshire's Premier Woodland Burial Ground
Lincolnshire's Premier Woodland Burial Ground
Nestled in the heart of Lincolnshire’s ancient woodland, Longholt Wood provides a tranquil final resting place for its many residents, and a place of peaceful contemplation for those left behind. Due to its great age the woodland contains a diverse range of plant and animal life including rare varieties of shrub such as black bryony and midland hawthorn, alongside an abundance of birdlife, butterflies, moths, bugs and lizards.
The adjacent burial pasture was planted in 2010 with Forestry Commission funding, giving it the same long-term protection as the rest of the surrounding ancient woodland. This gives our customers peace of mind knowing the area will only ever be used for natural burials.
We understand that every family is unique, and we offer a variety of options to help you create a personalised service that reflects the life and personality of your loved one. As a member of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds we uphold the highest standards in the Natural Burial Industry.
Natural Burial is a return to a simpler more environmentally conscious interment process. It shuns methods of post-death preservation, allowing instead for the body to break down naturally becoming one with the environment.
All burial and memorial goods must be compostable but this does not mean choices are limited. Many beautiful biodegradable caskets and coffins are available, and we can talk you through the options and help you decide which is most suited to your requirements.
Please reach us at longholtwood@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Longholt Wood Natural Burial Ground is located on the corner of Nocton Fen Lane on the B1202 between Potterhanworth & Nocton. A small car park is available for customer use.
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. We are available by phone 24/7 for funeral emergencies.
There really is no such things as a 'typical service at Longholt Wood. We actively encourage families to celebrate their loved one is whatever way best sums them up, be this in quiet contemplation & prayer or through song & dance. Here at LHW we have seen it all! Your plot can be blessed by a faith leader of your choice or we can put you in touch with a celebrant who will help you lead a ceremony.
Not all Natural Burial Grounds allow plaques or markers, but here at Longholt Wood we understand the importance of being able to find a loved one's plot. As such we allow wooden memorial plaques or a similar bio-degradable marker on each plot. We do request that these are easy to see so they can be avoided during the bi-annual mow.
Alternatively you may personalise the area through the planting of wildflowers. If this is something you would like to do please talk to us first to discuss what species are suitable.
Burial plaques are not a requirement. You may choose instead, to donate to wildlife enhancements such as bird / bat nesting or roosting boxes which boost the natural diversity of the site.
A wooden bench is allowed but we charge a fee equivalent to the plot it takes up. Maintaining the bench is the responsibility of the placer but we reserve the right to remove any that become unsafe or convene Natural Burial conventions.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
